Blog: New Arrivals and How We Choose

This week we welcomed eight new beautiful dresses to the Sixpenny Studio - and needless to say I am slightly obsessed! I can’t wait for you to see these and start trying them on and I am so happy to welcome Serene by Madi Lane to our roster of designers!

You may be wondering how we decide which dresses to buy for the boutique and how we choose our designers? So I thought for this first blog I would run through some of the considerations I make when making these selections!

Firstly there are many designers out there - but I like to align myself with ones that have a similar ethos to Sixpenny Bridal, particularly in that we are down to earth and welcoming for all brides! The designers we have also celebrate women and real brides, and this flows through with the designs they create, the fit of their dresses, the materials they use and the quality of their finish!

Style, trends and most importantly feedback from brides is then the main consideration when choosing the actual dresses - essentially, what do you want to see in store? I don’t go into a designer showroom and just choose a rail of dresses that I would wear - as I’d end up with all of them being a very similar style if that was the case! Instead I really listen to brides and keep you in mind when making my selections. I’m also never going to have a selection of 200+ dresses as we’re an intimate boutique with a focus on not being overwhelming for brides! So to make sure I select the best of the designer collections, whilst maintaining a mix of styles, sizing, necklines, skirts, shapes and materials is a balance. I have to think about whether a dress will complement what we already have in the boutique and it’s all a jigsaw, but I’m really proud of the mix we have in the boutique right now!

Price point is also something I definitely consider - this is a line to find the balance with, as I never want to sacrifice style or quality but I do want to make sure most of the dresses in the boutique match most wedding budgets. Of course, all brides have different circumstances, different visions, different priorities for where they spend their budget, but I try and make sure we have something for most people. Our dresses start from £950, and I am keen to make sure most (ideally all) are under £2,000 which is something we have achieved at the moment!

There are many more considerations too but that’s probably enough to cover for now! The new dresses we’ve just had in truly add to our range, and are fresh and fun. There is a mix in there too - some are sleek and simple, and some are embellished. The Mikado A-Line is a particular favourite of mine! Check out more pictures below!

Much love, Eleanor
